Self-propelled?

Monday, August 25th, 2008

April decided to mow the front lawn today – and I am very grateful to her for that. But, something funny happened. After she had the front lawn mowed she called her boyfriend (he’s in KY) and he happened to tell her that the mower is self-propelled. She didn’t know that so she mowed the whole front lawn pushing it. I guess it is OK that I think it is funny since she thinks it is too. And Scott’s motorcycle was in the front yard so she had to mow around that.

Camping August 22 – 24

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

This is a camping weekend. Had Friday off so we were able to get to the campground a bit early and get set up. Just relaxed. Sat around the campfire with friends. Beth got up early on Saturday and went fishing and then went to an Adult craft session. She made some greeting cards. I slept in and then worked on repairing the bedroom window of the camper. (Too long a story to go into here.) I’m getting close to having it fixed. Beth fixed some snacks for the Wine and Cheese tasting tonight. Went to dinner with friends. Had a really good time. Hate to see this camping season drawing to a close so soon.

Sunday morning Beth went fishing. I sat and talked with friends the whole morning. Should have worked on the window but didn’t. Got home about 6:00 pm. Had a great weekend with great weather.

A stay home and work day

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

We stayed home this weekend and worked. We started cleaning the garage, mowed the grass, weed eated, cut down a few trees, etc. We worked outside all day. It was great weather for it but we are both really tired. I guess it is probably good for us. We’ll probably sleep in tomorrow and go to church on Monday night again.

Scott and his fiance’ came over and cooked supper for us Sunday night. Her parents also came over. Had an enjoyable evening.

A Parable of Immorality, by Henry Van Dyke

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then some at my side says, “There she goes!”

Gone where? Gone from my sight…that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, “There she goes!” there are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, “here she comes!”

Still not a winner

Our numbers were not lucky in the PowerBall. Oh well, maybe on Saturday.

Camping – August 8 – 10

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Went camping this weekeng. Got down to the campground earlier than normal and got the camper set up. Had a relaxing Friday afternoon and evening. Sat around the campfire with the River Rats.

Saturday morning went to the board meeting. It was a long meeting since it was the budget meeting. Campfire again Saturday night.

More relaxing on Sunday. Left the campground much later than normal – around 5:30 pm.

Home again

Friday, August 8th, 2008

It is Friday morning and we are home again. Wednesday and Thursday were two of the longest days of my life. They were really hard. But it is over and now the healing can begin.

A sad day

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

I received a call this morning, August 3, 2008, from my brother in Fort Wayne. My mother passed away this morning at 12:30 am EST. She was 93 years, 10 months, 20 days old. Although she was ready to be reunited with my father we were not ready to let her go. She had been suffering from Parkinsons for quite some time and it had been getting worse. All her worries and problems and sufferings are gone. Only those of us she left behind still suffer. And now we suffer her loss. We will miss her. Say hello to Pop for us Mom.
