More camping

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

We went camping again this weekend. This was a bit different for us though since the folks that we normally camp with are all relatives to each other and they had a wedding this weekend. So it was just Beth and me. We got down there late (about 8:00 p.m.) on Friday night. We got set up in short order. Watched a little TV and went to bed. Saturday morning we went to the Adult Lounge so we could get on the interent to set up Beth’s new iPod Touch. Didn’t take all that long other then to sync all the songs from her laptop to the iPod. She likes it.

After lunch we played some frisbee golf. The course is laid out through a bunch of trees and that makes it difficult. It was fun though. We fished a bit at one spot but since the fish were not biting there we moved to a new spot. Got about three small fish (more like minnows.) After supper we went to the Wilderness pavilion. They had a group of American Indian dancers there. It was quite interesting. When we got back to the camper we started a fire and sat around the fire for about an hour or so. It was really different since this was the first time that just Beth and I had gone camping without other campers in quite a while.

Sunday we went to the annual meeting of the campground. After the problems at the old campground we didn’t want to get caught off guard at the new one. Seems like there is no problem. They are careful with the dollars but seems like they have plenty to operate on. When we got home we went to Pizza Street and now it is time to just relax. Hope your weekend was as good as ours. The whole weekend was beautiful. Highs of about 82 and not a cloud in the sky the whole weekend. We are thinking about getting a telescope. We can see the milky way from the campground because it is out in the country away from all the city lights. Not sure where we would keep it in the camper though.

Another camping weekend

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

We went camping this weekend. We have moved to a new campground. This was our second weekend at the new campgournd. The one were at is in deep financial problems. They have been losing members and not making any sales to new members. I got on the board last year to try to help but there wasn’t much to be done. And now the campground manager is leaving and that is really going to hurt. We saw the handwriting on the wall so we bought a membership at a campground about 30 miles from the old one and about the same distance from home.  We drove to the old one on Saturday for a board meeting. I ended up resigning from the board at the meeting. I was going to wait until the October meeting since a friend of ours is the board president and I was going to stay for him but it got so ugly both at the open discussion portion of the board meeting and at the “executive session” that I said “No more – I’m out of here.” A second board member did the same thing about 10 minutes later. It was rough.

We had lunch with the campground manager and his wife and three other couples from the campground and then drove back to the new campground. That evening we went to a murder mystery dinner at the new campground. Had a great time. Had salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffed pork chops and steamed vegtable medley (I didn’t take any of those). For desert we had pineapple upside down cake.  Sat around the campfire until about 11:00 and then went to bed.

On Sunday we stayed at the campground long enough to welcome another couple from the old campground who also came over to the new campground. (That makes the third couple.) Then drove home and celebrated Jamie’s third birthday. Kelly had driven into town on Saturday. Jamie and Kelsey sure are growning fast.

What beautiful weather

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

After a lot of rain starting Saturday evening and then being very overcast Sunday and Monday, we finally got some nice weather on Tuesday. I got home from work and mowed the grass and then trimmed the front yard. It got dark before I could mow the back. Couldn’t ask for nicer weather though. Hope to cut some more of the tree tonight since the weather today is great also.

Fixed the hitch

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Took the truck home to put the toneau cover back on and took a good look at the slider fifth wheel hitch while we had it there. Found that the “Bedrug” was holding up one of the pins and kept the slider hitch from moving forward to the locked position. Just cut out a bit of the “Bedrug” and the hitch slid forward and locked. Sure glad we didn’t take it to the dealer. We would have felt a bit foolish. Didn’t get any limbs cut.

Camping weekend

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

Went to a differnt cmapground this weekend. It was really a great campground. Towed the camper over. This was the first time we had hooked up the camper on our own. Had a bit of problems with the fifth wheel. It is a slider hitch since we have a short bed and we could not get it into the towing position so we had to tow it over in the manuvering position. Will have the hitch checked later this week if we have time. Did a little fishing but not much luck. I caught two little fish the whole time. Oh well, we don’t keep them anyway. Had a campfire Saturday night until it started to rain. And wow, did it ever rain. We had a waste basket sitting outside the camper and had about 12 – 14 inches of water in it. The lake level rose about 3 feet over night. Sunday we went to see a blue grass band at the campground. They were pretty good. The fiddle player was a national champion.

On another note, my mother would have been 94 years old today. Driving back from the campground was rough. I always tried to call her on Sunday evenings and this one was more difficult than normal. A lot of quiet time in the car and maybe too much time to think about it. I don’t know if they celebrate birthdays and anniversaries in heaven but if they do, I’m sure she had a great time. And Tuesday will be the first anniversary that Mom and Dad have had together in 27 years.

Missing a few limbss

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Well, Beth and I got a couple of limbs down and cut up last night. They sure look bigger on the ground. We are going to go camping this weekend so we cut up the two limbs into firewood to take along. Don’t know if we will get them burned or not since it is supposed to rain much of this weekend.

Sure gets dark early

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Worked on mowing and trimming the yard tonight. Just barely got the trimming done before it got too late to see. Wanted to get the yard waste out tonight since they pick it up in the morning. Sure can tell that fall is coming on. Tomorrow night I’m going to start cutting down the tree in the front yard. It’s starting to die. I’m just going to cut the limbs that I can reach from the ground. Our neighbor is going to help us after that.

TGIF

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Well, another work week is drawing to a close. This will be a stay at home and work weekend for us. We plan to work on cleaning out the garage and maybe some yard work. Not as much fun as going camping but we have got to do it.

Memories

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

We stopped at a bookstore tonight and I happened to see some word search books. The thought passed through my head that I should buy one for Mom and then thought that I wasn’t sure she could still do them. All of this took just a second or two and then I remembered. I love you Mom and I sure do miss you.

Not much labor this weekend

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

What a great weekend. We went down to the campground again this weekend. The camper was already on the site and set up so all we had to do was hook up the water, lower the awning and turn on the water heater and A/C. Had a campfire at friends campers all three nights.

Quite a bit of activities at the park this weekend since it was the last big weekend of the summer. Saturday morning there was a golf cart parade. I took pictures for the web site. We went into St. James to the winery to pick up a few bottles of wine. Drove into Sullivan to get some sewing items for Beth so she could finish the dress and hat she is making for Kelsey.

Sunday we went back to the winery with friends and then ate dinner in Cuba. Got back in time for the antique auto show (4 cars) and the 50’s sock hop (karaoke).

Left late in the afternoon on Monday after a morning of just sitting around talking. Doesn’t sound like much but a very relaxing weekend.
