July 17 – 19

Went camping. Didn’t do much other than the normal stuff – eat, sleep and talk. Had a campfire both nights since the weather was very cool. Great weather. When we got home on Sunday night Beth and I went to the new Harry Potter movie with April. It was good if you have read the books and know the story line.

Trip to Fort Wayne this weekend

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

We left Thursday evening and drove to Cloverdale IN. Got there about 9:30 pm. Spent the night at a Holiday Inn Express. Friday morning we drove to Fort Wayne. Stopped at the Ossian Nursing Home to see Beth’s mother. Had a good visit. Went to Kelly’s place and then went to Mr. Coney to eat. Visited with her and the kids on Friday. Got up Saturday and went to Kelly’s and then drove downtown for the Three Rivers Festival Parade. It was a good parade. Went to Junk Food Alley. and then back to Kelly’s for more visiting. Went to motel and crashed for a while and then went back to Kelly’s to eat at Fish of Stroh. There are two places we always try to eat at when in Ft. Wayne (Coney and Fish of Stroh). We hit both of them this time. Sunday morning we got up and went to church with Kelly and the kids and then made a quick trip out to Ossian to take four generation pictures. Then we loaded up and went to the children’s zoo. Had a good time. Then Kelly, Jordan and the kids came out to the hotel and swam for a while. Really hated to say goodbye. Missing them already. We head home tomorrow.

Fourth of July weekend

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

Had a long weekend. I took Thursday off so I headed down to the campground on Wednesday night. (Beth worked on Thursday but we both had Friday as the holiday.) Got down there and ate at Creekside Cafe. Actually, I got it as carryout. Got the camper and ate. It was already cool since friends of ours were down all week and they went in and started the a/c and fridge. Sure makes it nice. Course the only thing I had to put in the fridge was beer. Went and sat around the campfire with friends until about 11:00 pm. Thursday I finished setting up (awning, area rug, etc.) and put out a few of the decorations for the Fourth. The campground is having a contest. I drained the water tank (it still had bleach water in it) and then refilled it with fresh water. Let it set a couple of hours and then drained it again. Tried to mount a flag pole bracket on the camper but it would not fit where I wanted it so I gave up on that. Took one of the gas bottles out and had it filled along with a 20# bottle that I brought from home for the grill. Went over to friends and sat around the campfire again waiting for Beth. She had several delays and didn’t get to the camper until about 9:00 pm. Brought Taco Bell with her since I didnt’ have any food at the camper. We unloaded her car and went to bed. Friday we got up and put up some more decorations for the contest. (I forgot to take a picture.) Friday evening they had an Elvis impersonator at the campground. He was the winner of the first ever Elvis impersonator contest put on by the Elvis Presley Industries, Inc. I think he was good but the music was so loud and the amplifiers were overdriving the speakers and causing them to rattle and way too much base. We finally got tired of the loud music and left. We are told that it got a little better later. About 5:00 it started to get windy. We went out and put the awning up. On Saturday we went to a Gospel and Patriotic music performance by the same band that played last night. They were better today – not quite so loud. The Elvis impersonator was there but not dressed as Elvis. Under his wig his head is shaved. Doesn’t look at all like Elvis without the wig. Saturday night we went to the fireworks. It was supposed to start at 10:00 pm but since there was a storm coming they started them at 9:30 pm instead. They told us they had good news and bad news. The bad news was that there was a ‘monster’ storm heading our way. The good news was that they were starting the fireworks early. The fireworks lasted for about 20 – 25 minutes and they were great. Got to the car and it started to rain – very hard. We had to stop at friends camper to pick up our container of firewood. Got kinda wet getting it into the car. We got back to our camper and Beth stuck the lawn chairs in the camper and then ran to the door to unlock it. I sat in the car and waited and waited and waited. Finally she got the door open so then I ran in. Turns out she was using the wrong key. She was soaked. Headed home earlier than normal on Sunday since the sky was very overcast and it was spitting a little rain. All in all, it was a pretty good weekend. We don’t know how we did on the trailer decorating though since they were going to announce the winners on Sunday at bingo and we don’t do bingo. We’ll let you know how we did when we find out.
