April 23 – 24 – Camping

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

We went camping this weekend even though it rained most of the weekend. But we stayed dry for the most part. Got down there in good time on Friday night. Tried to watch Tom Hank’s in Cast Away but kept falling asleep. Saturday morning we drove over to a couple of RV dealers to pick up some stuff but mostly to see if we could find a way to hold the door open when the refrigerator is not in use. We found a couple of possibilites. Then when we got back to the camper I decided that maybe I should read the instruction manual. Turns out that there is a divider in the plastic shelves that comes out and doubles as a latch extender that holds the doors open.

Saturday night we went up to Fort Wilderness at the campground to a comedy show. Both comedians were funny but the second guy (the headliner) was extremely funny. Towards the end of the show he started to pick on a big guy sitting in the row in front of us. Kept calling him Big’n. Good thing the guy had a sense of humor. Left Sunday morning about 11:00 am. Thought we would leave while it wasn’t raining.

April 16 – 18 – Camping

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Went down to the campground again this weekend. My sister, Shirley came to the campground for a visit. She is heading to Indiana and wanted to know if we were going to be home but since we were at the campground she came there instead. Got there about 12:30 pm on Saturday and left about 9:00 am on Sunday. I hope she had a good time other than the fact that the air mattress went flat during the night. We had never used it before. Don’t know if it has a leak or if we did something wrong. We are going to check it out next weekend to see if we can figure out what went wrong. Had a good campfire Saturday night but it got a little cold even with the campfire. Beth went to the doctor today and cleared to go back to work on Wednesday.

Carpet cleaning tomorrow

Monday, April 12th, 2010

We are having the carpet cleaned again tomorrow. So after we got home from church I vacumned the two rooms we are having done and the upstairs hallway. Should not have been a big deal but the vacumn did not want to work right. They are also going to clean the sofa and the recliner. Hope it cleans up okay.

First weekend of camping

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Tuesday night I cut up another one of the logs from the tree that we cut down last year. Still have two to go and one of those is very large. Probably won’t get to work on it any more this week since I am loading all the stuff in the truck that we will need to take to the camper this weekend. Tomorrow night I need to mow the grass again and then Friday night it is off to the campground.

It is Thursday night and I got the grass cut again. Packed my clothes and stuff for camping so I guess I am ready unless Beth finds some more stuff that we need to take along. Probably won’t add to this until we get back from the campground.

We are back from our first weekend of camping. Had a beautiful weekend. It was sunny and warm and dry the whole weekend. I worked through lunch on Friday so I could leave early. We got down to the campground while it was still light but we went to the Creekside Cafe and ate first. One of the manager’s of the Creekside had gastric bypass surgery in November and has lost 138 pounds. She has a way to go but is doing great.

We thought we were going to be the only ones there on Friday night but one of the couples showed up (Bob and Joyce) and surprised us because we did not know they were camping this weekend. We talked to them about an hour and then when they left we finished unloading the truck and went to bed.

Saturday morning we worked on unpacking all the stuff that we had unloaded the night before. Bob and Bonnie showed up about 9:00 am and started working on their camper. We went over and bothered them for 10 -15 minutes just to say hi and then went back and finished our work. We were done before lunch. Had to make one run for a 9 volt battery for the smoke detector and trash bags. Other than that we had not forgot anything. Not too bad. Built a campfire by our camper and the other two couples came over and we sat around and shot the… well, you know. We sat there until we ran out of wood. We were the only ones that brought wood but that’s okay ’cause we have a lot of it. While we were around the campfire Bonnie called her brother and sister-in-law (Bill and Carol) and kidded them about not being there. She said “Are you coming down to the campfire? Oh, that’s right, you didn’t come camping this weekend. That’s too bad since the weather is sooooooo nice.” Really put them on.

We closed up the camper about 5:00 pm and went down to the Creekside with Bob and Bonnie. Talked some more with the gal there that had the gastric bypass since Bob is thinking about having it done. Got home about 8:00 pm. Unloaded the truck and took it back over to storage so now we are catching up with email, blogs, Facebook and TV. It was a GREAT first weekend of camping.

Happy Easter

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

A Blessed Easter to all of you. We got up this morning and went to early service and then went to the Easter morning breakfast at church. They had egg caserols, sausage, pancakes, french toast, donuts, and fruit. It was good. When we got home I got the weed eater out and got it started and trimmed the front yard. Took our wood container and filled it up with wood and put it in the truck (getting ready for camping next weekend.) Beth had a turkey in the freezer that she put in the oven last night. So for lunch we had turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and noodles. It was good. April and Kayden came over for a while and brought some plastic eggs over. April and I hid them in the back yard. Then Brian came over along with a friend of theirs and his two kids (Zach and Bug.) The kids found all those eggs in a lot less time then it took us to hide them. They played on the back porch for a while and now the house is quite again and I think we are going to take a little nap.

Saturday

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Worked out in the yard for while today. Some of our blocks on the front flower bed had been slid out of line. So I had to pull about 8 or 9 of them up and get the stones out of the way and then set them back in a straight line. There is a bit of a dip in the middle but that would mean pulling the row of block that in the ground up and releveling them and I was not up for that.

The next thing was to lower the sewer clean-out that we have in the front yard. It was sticking up too far and I would always have to mow around it. So I took off the cap and cut it off even with the ground and then put the cap back on. Now I won’t have to mow around it.

Worked in the garage some straightening up a bit. Beth worked in the kitchen. We got some spray from Lowes for the ants. We had sprayed last night and it seemed to be taking care of the problem. Since they seemed to be coming in from around the light switch we took off the plate and took one of those insulation ‘things’, sprayed it with the ant killer and put it back on. We have not seen an ant since.

We had also been seeing a few meal moths flying around so Beth took all of the open stuff out and threw most of it away. We got a couple of moth traps and ut them up and seems to be working. Hope so. Have a Blessed Easter.

Good Friday

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Had the day off so I slept in a bit. Got up about 7:30 am. Cut the front yard. The back yard is not really needing it yet. Then worked on the garage door. We have had problems with it not opening. Seemed like it was going down too far. I moved the limit switch maybe 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch and it has worked okay the rest of the day. Ran it up and down about 8 or 9 times without an issue right after I adjusted it and several times since taking the car in or out and it has worked fine each time. Went over to Lowes to get some ant spray. We have some little ants in the kitchen. They don’t seem to be attracted to Terro so we got a spray. Seems to be working so far. I have wanted to put up a larger shed for quite some time so while we were there I did some pricing and found out that they were marked on sale in the home and garden section. They were not marked on sale in front of the store. So we went ahead and bought it. Not sure esactly how to get it unloaded from the truck. Guess I’ll worry about that tomorrow.
